C&A
Farm is defining the Spotted Draft Horse.
We are often asked "What is a Spotted Draft
Horse?"
Its a great question. They are a crossbred horse
between a draft from Percheron, Belgian, Shire, Cyldesdale, Suffolk
Punch or American Cream breeding. They must have atleast 50% draft
blood. A premium horse is no less then 7/8 draft breeding. Regular
registry can be between 50% to 75% draft blood. So essentially
they are a draft cross. They do allow Drum horses to be recorded
in the registry but not gypsy vanners or cobs. The also must meet
height requirements of 15+ hands and not have pony, appaloosa,
donkey, mule or gaited horse breeding.
The North American Spotted Draft Association (NASDHA)
was founded in 1995 to preserve and record Spotted Draft Horses.
The NASDHA registry is more than a color registry, there are pedigree
requirements as well as color requirements to have a registered
Spotted Draft Horse.
Some feel the Spotted Draft should be only a draft
type horse and others, like myself, feel differently. Why not
breed and promote a horse that can do everything! There are no
limits to what you can do with a spotted draft. You can custom
create a horse to fit your needs. Our horses are seen in a variety
of settings, mostly as the versatile all around horse or the "do-all"
as I like to call them. The cost to feed any breed of horse is
about the same so why not have a horse that can really do it all!!
If you can do it, you can
do it better with a Spotted Draft Horse!!!
